Birdville ISD will observe Red Ribbon Week Oct. 25-31. This year's theme is “REACH for the STARS! Stay Drug, Alcohol and Tobacco Free!” Special events are planned district wide for each day.

"Take Back" Initiative The North Richland Hills Police Department is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration for the national "Take Back" initiative . During this initiative, residents may drop off unused, expired and unwanted prescription drugs and they will be disposed of in a safe manner. The "take back" event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 2010 at the Fire Administration building, located at 7202 Dick Fisher Drive. The program is free and anonymous, with no questions asked. Inhalers, syringes and liquid medication will not be accepted. Many Americans are not aware that medicines that sit in home cabinets have a high chance of misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are increasing at alarming rates, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. In addition, many people do not know how to properly dispose of their unused medicine, often flushing them down the toilet or throwing them away, both of which are potential safety and health hazards.
