Lane Ledbetter, Ed.D., joined BISD as Associate Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction in June 2009. He is responsible for providing direction, evaluation and leadership for the overall instruction program of the district.
Ledbetter brings more than 15 years of experience to his new position. His experience includes: director of curriculum and instruction for BISD from 2008-09; principal at Birdville High School from 2006-08; principal at North Ridge Middle School; assistant principal at Haltom High; the district's administrator for virtual education; and assistant principal at North Richland Middle School. Ledbetter joined the district in 1999.
He earned his bachelor's and doctorate degrees from Baylor University and his master's degree from the University of North Texas. His professional certifications include superintendent, principal and composite science. Ledbetter is a member of Texas Association of Secondary School Principals, Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development and the Texas Association of Supervision and Curriculum Development.
The Division of Curriculum and Instruction maintains a singular focus on students through a deep commitment to ensuring that they learn what they need to know and be able to do in order to succeed in a future they create. A strong, viable curriculum guarantees that all BISD students learn the key concepts and skills they need for the 21 st Century.
An interactive Learning Plan provides educators requisite guidance as they design, instruct, assess, and reflect on effective teaching and learning practices.
After collaborating to design meaningful work, BISD educators engage and encourage students in profound learning at all levels. Teachers embed rich, compelling design qualities like authenticity, choice, and novelty and variety into their lessons, thereby encouraging students to willingly volunteer their attention and commitment to the work. Teachers also employ research-based classroom strategies that result in heightened achievement for all learners. Cooperative learning, academic vocabulary, and non-linguistic representations are but a few of these effective strategies.
Educators systematically use Continuous Improvement processes and tools to collect, track, and monitor student achievement. Students learn to shoulder the responsibility for their own learning as they chart and study their performance data before setting personal learning goals. Whenever necessary, teachers intervene during their instruction to use differentiated instructional strategies that address the learning needs of struggling students.
Because we believe that every student not only can but deserves to learn every day, all members of the Curriculum and Instruction Division dedicate themselves to doing whatever it takes to reach and teach every child.
